Here’s how to build your travel history in 2025.
(1) Plan: Plan a road trip with your friends from lagos to Abidjan, and make stops in all the countries in between Benin Republic, Togo, Ghana and finally Cote d’ ivoire. You can decide to fly back from Cote d’ Ivoire, back to Nigeria. This way you get 4 country stamps on your passport with only one way ticket bought.
(2) Get a visa that gets you a sticker on your passport, but also gives you access to more countries. The best option? East African Visa. You can apply through Kenya or Uganda. This visa also gives the holders access to Rwanda, but Rwanda is already visa free for Nigeria.
Say you apply through Kenya 🇰🇪, book a flight on Kenya Airways to Entebbe, Uganda, with the longest possible layover in Nairobi. This is typically cheaper than booking a multi- city flight. Let’s assume you have a 20 hour layover. When you land in Nairobi, go through immigration, leave the airport, check into your hotel and spend the night.
The next morning, do a little exploring and head to the airport later in the evening to continue your trip to Uganda. On your way back, you can do the same thing again or just stay at the airport.
The most important thing is that you have added 2 countries ( or 3 if you decide to go to Rwanda also)
Join a group trip, or plan a private trip with a trusted travel company to a more “mainstream” “vacation country” (outside Africa) that you typically won’t be able to get the visa yourself without much hassle. Some good examples are: Singapore, Qatar and Jordan.
(4) Book a round trip ticket to Senegal for 10 days. On day 6 in Senegal, take a road trip to The Gambia, spend 3-4 days and drive back to Senegal to catch your flight back.
And here you go, 10 countries on your passport, you’ve only booked 3 return tickets and one one – way, and your travel history is on lock.
